How to make a water bottle holder (with lining)
Today’s handcraft work is a water bottle holder with a shoulder strap. Difficult steps are skipped to make the holder and shoulder part easy to make.
The round bottom of the holder is difficult to sew, so it is changed to a square bottom.
I designed the water bottle holder for children to use and put on a shoulder strap, but you can detach the strap if it isn’t needed. The holder opening has the draw string to close the opening. (To prevent the water bottle from falling)
The body of the water bottle holder has lining and the making itself is solid. The finished size is about 17cm x 5cm. The gusset length is about 6cm. It is the size that fits a 350ml bottle.
Materials
Outer fabrics are 2 pieces of 23.5cm x 14.5cm sized fabric. (Seam allowances are included. Attach fusible interlining on the back.)
Fusible interfacing gives fabric firmness, and keeps the shape of the water bottle holder.
Inner fabrics are 2 pieces of 23cm x 14cm sized fabric. (Seam allowances are included)
For tabs, tape or ribbon are 2 pieces. (size 1cm x 6cm)
Drawstring fabric is 9cm x 26cm. (Seam allowances are included. zig zag stitch.)
Cord for drawstring fabric is 40cm and cord lock is 1 piece.
For shoulder strap, 2 pieces of 7cm x 40cm sized fabric. (Seam allowances are included. Attach fusible interlining on the back.)
Cords for shoulder strap, 2 pieces of 30cm long straps and 2 pieces of cord lock.
Make drawstring fabric of water bottle holder
1. Fold the drawstring fabric (1cm), and stitch.
When making creases, it is recommended to use a hot hemmer. The folds are neat, and the finishing is nice.
2. Fold 1cm and 2.5cm width from the top edge and stitch.
Make outer bag
1. Place the outer fabrics with right sides facing each other and sew the side and bottom.
2. Cut off extra corner cloths, and press seam allowances open. Then make gusset, and sew.
3. Cut the extra seam allowances (2.5cm from the holder opening).
4. Baste the outer fabric and tabs together.
5. Baste the outer fabric and drawstring fabric with right side together.
Make inner bag
1. Place the inner fabrics with right sides facing each other and sew the side and bottom. (Leave 6cm gap for turning.)
2. Cut off extra corner cloths, and press seam allowances open. Then make gussets, and sew.
3. Cut the extra seam allowances (2.5cm from the holder opening).
Make the water bottle holder body
1. Insert the inner bag into the outer bag with right side together. Then sew around the perimeter of holder opening.
2. Press seam allowances open and turn inside out from the gap.
3. Sew the edge of gap.
4. Stitch the edge of holder opening and iron to shape.
Make the shoulder strap
1. Baste the shoulder fabric and cords together.
2. Sew the shoulder fabrics with right side together. (Leave 7cm gap for turning.)
3. Cut off extra seams. Press seam allowances open.
4. Turn inside out, and stitch the edge.
5. Thread the cord and cord lock through the part of draw string and connect the body and shoulder strap. The water bottle holder is done.
